Hardy could be next big thing for Bills

Posted May. 07 at 09:47 AM

It’s a subpar year for rookie wide receivers. For the first time ever, not one player at that position was selected with a top 30 pick.

I do, however, find myself intrigued by James Hardy, who was selected by the Bills early in the second round. He looks like he could be just what that offense needs.

At 6-foot-6 and 220 pounds, Hardy is physically similar to Plaxico Burress – same body type, just 12 pounds lighter and just a little faster. And he’s going to a team that needs that type of wide receiver. None of the Bills’ other three main wide receivers are taller than 5-foot-10, and the team doesn’t have a good pass-catching tight end.

Hardy caught 10, 10 and 16 TDs in his three seasons at Indiana, and he caught 79 passes last year. He’s good. And I expect the Bills to try to get him the ball in red zone situations. If some receiver in this draft class is going to surprise us with a Marques Colston or Anquan Boldin type season, I think it will be Hardy.

For some background on this guy, see the article that was written about him recently that appeared in The Buffalo News.
