Fantasy News
The guys at Fanexfootball.com have announced the draft order for their first mock draft. This one starts next Wednesday and probably will take about a month (it’s an online draft with a 12-hour timer).
I’m drafting in the No. 8 spot. I have no idea what will be available at that point. LaDainian Tomlinson and Adrian Peterson, I’m confident, will be gone. But in this scoring format, Tom Brady might be an option.
Trades are also legal. If anybody has a suggestion for that spot, pass them along, as I am competing on behalf of the website.
Scoring system is standard, except also 1 point for receptions. Starting lineup of QB, 2 RB, 3WR, TE, K and Def, plus a “flex” player, which can be a RB, WR or TE. No roster moves or starting lineups – this is a best-ball league.
These types of leagues tend to be a battle of attrition – if your guys stay healthy and produce reasonable well, you’ve got a chance. I won the thing last year, despite not selecting any of the standout players – Tomlinson, Brady, Moss or Peterson.
My winning roster last year included Drew Brees, two good running backs (Reggie Bush and Jamal Lewis), four solid receivers (Steve Smith, T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Greg Jennings and Jerricho Cotchery), three tight ends (Chris Cooley, Heath Miller, L.J. Smith), Stephen Gostkowski and two good defenses (New England, Minnesota). My only real standout picks were Lewis in the fifth round and Jennings in the seventh.

Ian, I believe in a PPR league at #8 .. a receiver is a great pick (Moss ??), unless 1 of these 6 are available .. LT, AP, S.Jackson, F.Gore, B.Westbrook, J.Addai. You could still get a solid/great back in the 2nd Rd.

I drafted in this league several years ago for KFFL with William Del Pilar. We were successful in those days going for running backs the first 3 picks since one could be the flex player. But if Brady is there he is so much better than all but a few qbs he would be a good pick. I would take Brady or a running back that also catches a lot of passes. Clinton Portis could be a decent first round pick. Earnest Graham catches a lot of passes and would be great in a ppr format in the early rounds. Will Rogers

I believe Brady would be a great pick also (P. Manning not too shaby either)....but only those two would I consider. If not those two, then a RB. I agree with William Rodgers, that Graham is a "sleeper" in this format. I don't think picking a WR at this spot is a good idea, you still might be able to land a "Welker" a round later.

I like what Will and Tod had to say but I'm not sure how much I like taking a sleeper in the first round. Having the eight overall pick there are going to be plenty of quality RBs and QB available. With LT AP Jackson Westbrook Addai brady and either Gore or LJ gone. I don't think you can go wrong with Marion Barber or Peyton Manning, both very solid. Also with your early second round pick take moss or TO.

Of course you don't take Graham in the first round. Running backs that catch a lot of passes are like gold in ppr leagues. I play in two ppr leagues. Last season Clinton Portis was the number 3 ppr league scoring back because he catches a lot of passes. Graham was the number 10 scoring back in spite of not being the starter at the beginning of the season. But Graham's a good pick a little later even though Warrick Dunn might chip away at his production. Graham outscored Marion Barber by a lot in this format last season because of his receptions. Barber will get pulled on passing downs in favor of Felix Jones.

I also didn't mean to insinuate taking Graham in the 1st round (sorry for any confusion), I believe he is a "sleeper" in that some people will overlook him somewhat. Reggie Bush will probably drop in some drafts, but he catches lots of balls (if he could just find the end zone), and I think he will be used in similar fashion to his 1st year.
