I’m going to set a record for trades in this league. We’re just ending the seventh round. So far, I’ve picked five players with draft spots obtained in trades. I’ve stayed put and selected with three draft picks.
Earlier, I traded down out of the second round twice, to pick up the extra fifth-round pick. This time, it was a move up.
In preparing for this draft, I looked at the last five Fanex drafts and determined I would likely be able to get the quarterback I wanted at spot 8.05. And earlier I traded away my 7.08. But as this draft has progressed, quarterbacks have been more coveted than in the past. There’s only one left who I really like – Jay Cutler – and Tony Holm is sitting with picks 7.12 and 8.01 and hasn’t taken a QB.
I figure that there’s a 70 percent chance (at least) that Holm will grab Cutler just in front of me, so cut a deal with Matt Pitzer. Pitzer moves down 6 spots from 7.11 to 8.05 (where he may get the player he wants anyway). And in exchange, he gets to move up 14 spots from 11.07 to 10.05.
I think it’s a win-win. Certainly, I’m relieved to have Cutler. I’ve put a high grade on him in the magazine.

Teams start 3 WR, 2 RB, QB, TE, PK, DEF and one flex (WR-RB-TE) player. 18-man rosters. No waiver moves. No lineups (it's a best-ball format). High score after 17 NFL weeks wins.
