Around the NFL
Jeff Garcia is cheesed off. He wants a new contract, the Bucs have been dragging their feet on it, and he’s mad.
Based on his comments in an interview on Sirius NFL Radio, it sounds like there’s a good chance Garcia will not show up at camp on time or at least be a distraction. He even says he might retire.
"It would be really difficult for me to go through the season and not have something done," Garcia said. "I would really like to see the appreciation put out there.
Garcia signed a two-year deal worth $7 million prior to the 2007 season. He played well last season, helping the Bucs win the NFC South. But he’s 38 years old, and Tampa Bay has a lot of other quarterbacks.
It will be interesting to see how this turns out.
One guy who might actually benefit from a quarterback switch would be Joey Galloway. Galloway had solid season last year, going over 1,000 yards for the third straight year and scoring 6 TDs. But he and Garcia didn’t have much of a chemistry around the goal line. Galloway, in fact, wasn’t the intended target on any of the 26 passes the Bucs threw when they were inside the 10-yard line.
There’s a recap of Garcia’s radio rant at tampabay.com.
