Could Javon Walker be a free agent again next spring?
So far, since signing a mega deal with the Raiders, he’s shown up out of shape for some spring workouts and now he’s suffered possible season-threatening injuries after being mugged in Las Vegas after a long night of partying.
Police say that Walker was found knocked out and beaten on a Las Vegas street, apparently robbed of cash and jewelry.
In February, Walker signed a six-year contract worth $55 million, with an $11 million signing bonus. But Lane Kiffin criticized him for being out of shape at a May workout, where Walker was outperformed by backup Drew Carter. Will the Raiders want to give Walker another $9 million next year, as is specified in his contract? Time will tell. He’s supposed to receiver another $5 million bonus, plus a $4 million base salary.

I have to wonder if he'll be a Raider THIS year. Clearly Al Davis didn't know what he was doing when he gave Walker that ridiculous contract, but surely there's something in there that can enable them to go after the money they've already paid him, right? Not that being mugged would violate the contract, I guess. Still, you have to think the Raiders are looking for ways to get out of the contract now, say nothing of next year. I remember people saying the Packers didn't get enough for Walker when they traded him for "just" a second-round pick. That's a second-round pick more than the Broncos or Raiders got, and considering that was the year the Packers took Greg Jennings in the second round, well....
