Anderson, Rivers struggled near goal line

Posted Jun. 17 at 02:14 PM

A couple of surprise teams from last year, when it came to passing the ball around the goal line.

The Browns and Chargers. Neither were as effective passing the ball as you might think - at least when their teams were inside the 10-yard line.

San Diego, with Philip Rivers handling almost all of the quarterbacking, completed only 11 of 35 passes in that area.

Cleveland, with Derek Anderson taking over during the first game, completed only 17 of 43 passes, with 2 interceptions.

Only two other teams completed less than 40 percent of their passes in that area, and both have young quarterbacks who haven't arrived yet as passers - Minnesota and Tennessee.

The Bills shockingly rank No. 1 on this list (which is ordered by completion percentage), but they attempted only 10 passes in that area.

We'll explore this area of the field more in late June and early July, when I'm not as busy getting the magazine completed.
