Culpepper, Leftwich waiting for jobs

Posted Jun. 24 at 04:51 PM

The two most prominent free agent quarterbacks are Daunte Culpepper and Byron Leftwich. The Washington Times has a feature on Leftwich today, while Culpepper says he’s declined a contract offer from Green Bay.

In the Times story, Leftwich says he’s healthy and waiting for an opportunity. Where he winds up, however, remains to be seen. Detroit? Chicago? More likely, he’ll remain unsigned until some team loses one of its top two quarterbacks with an injury.

"I know teams are thinking, 'Hey, this guy's getting injured every year,'" Leftwich said in the article. "A lot of teams are scared of taking a chance on me. We all know I can play once I'm out there. But I don't really know. I know somebody's gonna give me the opportunity, and when I get that opportunity, somebody's gonna take advantage."

The Leftwich feature can be seen at the website of , The Washington Times.

Culpepper, meanwhile, says he refused a one-year, $1 million offer to play for Green Bay. That story appears at Ocala.com.

Culpepper didn’t elaborate on his discussions with the Packers. Most likely, he is hoping for a chance to compete for a starting job. And at this point, that looks unlikely. As with Leftwich, he might not land with a team until after some other quarterback gets hurt in August.
