Around the NFL
The Broncos made a couple of noteworthy cuts today, releasing Mike Bell and Garrett Hartley.
Bell was the big rags-to-riches story of the 2006 preseason, winning the team’s starting tailback job as an undrafted free agent. He went on to run for 677 yards. But it was no surprise to see him cut today. With limited size and speed, he was clearly a college-caliber running back – not a candidate to be the team’s starting tailback, and nothing special as a fullback or special teams player.
Hartley was hoping to win the team’s kicking job – I thought he would their guy – but he obviously didn’t work out. Now, Matt Prater is the only kicker on the team’s roster.
The Denver Post has a short story on the cuts, which can be accessed by clicking here.
