I was annoyed last year when the Jets and Bills, in their official team media guides, stopped listing the date of birth for players. Rather than listing Trent Edwards as being born on 10/30/1983, for example, they just list him as being 24.
I don’t like it, because you’re never really quite sure if the information is accurate. Is the “24” his age when the book was printed? When training camp started? On opening day? And will he be 24 at the end of the season?
But I fear that the whole league might being starting to follow suit on this one. Now, in the NFL Record & Fact Book, which is sort of all the media guides rolled into one, they’re now listing age rather than DOB.
Annoying. Frickin’ annoying. Makes me wonder whether that book is even worth buying anymore. The standards there have been slipping anyway. Last year, a substantial portion of the date of birth information was screwed up anyway.
Also, this year in that book this year, the Washington stats are all screwed up. Somehow, they printed the 2006 team stats rather than the 2007. Very unprofessional. Not sure how they bungled that. What? We did the same thing with our Philadelphia story on page 189? Never mind.

If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. I'm sure whatever source you use for NFL Draft info has each player's DOB - I guess you'll have to start your own database. Maybe eventually you can sell it back to the NFL teams once they realize they screwed up!
