TD-only draft: slew of rookie runners in 7th-10th rounds
Posted Aug. 25 at 04:38 AM
Our annual TD-only league, featuring 12 Fantasy Index SuperFanatic subscribers, is more than halfway done. The extended format draft started last Wednesday and is now heading into the 11th round (out of 18). Some highlights from the middle rounds:
Round 5-6: Small run on quarterbacks (Cutler, Anderson, McNabb), tight ends (Cooley, Shockey, Watson), and players with off-field issues (Ricky Williams, Marvin Harrison, Anquan Boldin). These rounds, in other words, are where people break away from the standard RB-WR picks to fill out the other key lineup positions, as well as where the gambles on talented guys with risk associated begin.
Round 7-8: A surprisingly early run on kickers, although as has been observed in the past, kickers tend to be fairly important in this format. Rookies came off the board too, including Jonathan Stewart, Steve Slaton, and DeSean Jackson.
Round 9-10: More rookie runners: Tim Hightower, Felix Jones, Ray Rice. Given the TD-only scoring, Hightower -- the likely goal-line back in Arizona -- looks like a particularly shrewd choice.

Their teams will compete during the season in a full-bore, hands-on league with starting lineups and a free agent grab bag. (This is different from our Experts mock draft league and our Experts mock auction league. There's no prize money involved. It's just for fun and for bragging rights.)
