Around the NFL
LaDainian Tomlinson and Adrian Peterson were the top two picks in most fantasy leagues. (Assuming of course that you weren't in a league where Tom Brady went that high.) Their owners could face tricky decisions this weekend.
Tomlinson (turf toe) isn't practicing; he's "hopeful" that he'll be much better and able to play Monday night against the Jets. Most fantasy owners will need to decide on their lineups long before that, which creates a tricky scenario. Bench Tomlinson? If he hasn't practiced by Sunday, it makes some sense. Tomlinson will likely play in a game the 0-2 Chargers have to win, but he'll probably lose a lot of work to backup Darren Sproles. In one league I have both players. If I start either, it will likely be Sproles, unless Tomlinson practices fully at any point between now and the game.
Then there's Adrian Peterson, who's got a sore hamstring and also not practicing. Brad Childress suggests he'll be a "gametime decision." On the bright side, it's a 1 p.m. EST game, so owners will likely know Sunday morning if Peterson is active or not. Peterson practiced on a limited basis on Wednesday, then missed practice on Thursday -- a worrying sign. Peterson himself, though, believes he'll be able to play. "I feel like when Sunday rolls around, I'll be ready to go," he said. As with Tomlinson, if Peterson doesn't practice leading up to the game, it will be difficult to put him into a fantasy lineup. I also have Peterson in one league. In his case, I'll probably wait to see if he's active on Sunday, and if he is, I'll start him.
Friday morning's story on Peterson in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune can be seen right here.
