He didn’t practice all week, but the Seahawks haven’t given up hope that they might have Deion Branch on Sunday night at Tampa Bay.
Branch has a bruised heel, but he will travel with the team. "We're going to test him again on the day of the game and see how it feels," says Mike Holmgren in an article in today’s edition of The Seattle Times.
The Seahawks could really use Branch. Nate Burleson and Ben Obomanu are out for the year, and Billy McMullen might soon join them – he broke his pinkie in practice on Thursday. The team’s only healthy receivers are Bobby Engram, Koren Robinson, Keary Colbert and Jordan Kent.
Most likely Branch won’t play in this game. That would likely make Engram, Robinson and Colbert the team’s main receivers for this game. Kent is a raw receiver and has practiced almost exclusively at the split end position, where he is clearly behind Robinson.
The Seahawks will start Seneca Wallace at quarterback in this game. That at least gives these receivers an outside chance of having some success; third-stringer Charlie Frye looked lost in the game against the Packers.
