He's not quite up there with the likes of Jerry Jones and Daniel Snyder, but Jim Irsay has a big mouth. He pumps out some strange tweets, and he needs to learn when to hold his tongue.

What else is there to say, after the Colts owner, for unknown reasons, decided to weigh in on the knee injury suffered by Robert Griffin III last year. Irsay says that if the Colts had drafted RG3 last year, he would have done a better job of protecting him from injury.

"My philosophy on quarterbacks is, first and foremost, you've got to keep them healthy and on the field."

Sounds great. Except Andrew Luck also took a lot of hits last year. It was a real issue in the second half of the season, with Luck consistently hanging onto the ball and taking shots that could have been avoided. He needs to learn to get rid of the ball faster.

As a runner, Griffin ran the ball 58 more times than Luck (120-62). So there's some extra punishment there.

But as a passer, Luck took a lot more hits than RG3. According to NFL.com figures, Luck was hit 116 times last year on pass plays, the most of any quarterback in the league. As a passer, Luck was hit 36 more times than Washington's quarterbacks (RG3 and Kirk Cousins).

Only the Eagles (who used two quarterbacks) allowed more quarterback hits and quarterback hits more often.

Why Irsay decided to weigh in on this, I have no idea.

The Colts and Washington will next meet in the regular season in 2014.
