A year ago the Denver Broncos selected Cody Latimer in the second round. He didn't do anything as a rookie, but the Broncos need somebody to step up as their No. 3 receiver this year with Wes Welker gone. There's been some hype that maybe Latimer will be a big contributor.

How have recent second-round wide receivers fared in their second season? Over the previous 14 seasons, there have been 59 other wide receivers selected in the second round. In year two, only three of them have gone over 1,000 yards; just 10 have managed even 700 receiving yards. All of those players contributed far more as a rookie than Latimer, who caught only 2 passes for 23 yards last season.

Not to say it can't happen for Latimer, who had a steep learning curve in a Peyton Manning offense. He concedes he struggled with the playbook as a rookie. But he'll be beating the history if he puts up quality numbers in 2015.

Second-round wide receivers since 2000, sorted by year 1 receiving yardage, are shown below.
