With the NFL Draft fast approaching, the talking heads seem most interested in where Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston end up. Quarterbacks, as usual, get the most attention from the casual fans. But fantasy teams care most about the wide receivers and running backs, and it's a very compelling draft for both.

Particularly at running back, where a year ago it was difficult to get too excited about Bishop Sankey or even Carlos Hyde. This year we've got two likely first-round picks and a whole bunch of backs likely to be drafted in the second and third round. When we wake up at this time next Saturday morning, we'll know where all of those players will start their careers.

Ben Volin of the Boston Globe gives an overview of the top players at this link. The Patriots have only one sure thing at the position in LeGarrette Blount, so some observers think they'll use an early pick on a running back.

Most believe Todd Gurley will go early -- maybe even in the top 10, despite tearing his ACL last November. Melvin Gordon is also viewed as a first-round pick; he could be an option for the Cowboys, the Ravens, or any team picking in the bottom half of the first round.

If the Patriots want somebody to replace Shane Vereen, they could be looking at Ameer Abdullah in the second round; he's a capable pass catcher. Teams looking for a workhorse could consider Jay Ajayi or T.J. Yeldon.

Other potential starters: David Johnson, Tevin Coleman, Javorious Allen. Duke Johnson might be viewed as more of a committee guy, but that's often assumed of smaller backs; he should definitely be part of a passing game.

It's a good group of backs with a lot of potential fantasy contributors. Last year wasn't as good, but keep in mind that nine different rookies had at least 500 rushing yards, so teams aren't afraid to get them on the field in their first seasons.
