Julius Thomas will likely undergo surgery to repair a tendon in his finger, missing up to five weeks. GM Dave Caldwell confirmed it saying the most realistic scenario has Thomas returning in Week 4 to face the Colts.

It sounds like not having surgery is also an option, but if they do that, he could miss even more time if has to have the surgery later. Most likely, he's gone until Week 4 or 5.

This would seem to benefit Marcedes Lewis, but best not to to be too sure. The Jaguars also have Clay Harbor, who's a capable pass catcher himself, and this is a two tight-end offense. Before jumping too high at Lewis, who might be more of the inline player, maybe consider a much later pick on Harbor, who could be a more productive receiver and better downfield threat.

Or avoid the situation altogether, which probably won't be too difficult in most leagues. Certainly, before selecting Thomas, consider that he'll most likely miss at least four games. First choice: look elsewhere.
