The injuries keep piling up in Baltimore’s receiving corps. Breshad Perriman has undergone an additional knee surgery. They won’t have him anytime soon. Steve Smith Sr. has four broken ribs; he’s going to miss some time. And they just placed Michael Campanaro on injured reserve.

So it’s a little intriguing that the Ravens swung a trade for Chris Givens. Givens hasn’t done much in St. Louis recently (he was their fourth or fifth receiver) but he has a long history of being able to get deep, and he still seems to have that ability. He caught a pair of touchdowns over 50 yards in the preseason.

Joe Flacco is one of the best deep-ball throwers in the league, so Givens might fit in this offense a lot better than he did in St. Louis. He could end up being what they were hoping Perriman would be – the replacement for Torrey Smith.

For fantasy purposes, Givens makes a little bit of sense in leagues giving credit for long touchdowns. I’ll bet that he catches at least a couple of touchdowns over 40 yards before the season is over.

As for Smith, I want to circle back to those eye-popping numbers he put up in his first two games. He caught 10 passes for 150 yards at Oakland, then followed that up with 13 for 186 against the Bengals. That’s really hard to do, and this guy is 36 years old.

In the last 40 years, only six other receivers in back-to-back weeks have caught 10-plus passes for 150-plus yards. (Though with the game opening up, notice that it’s now happened five times in three years).
