It's a very fine line between winning and losing in the NFL. Three overtime games, several others decided with touchdowns in the final minute. It's why people love (and hate) football, because it's exceeding difficult to accurately pick winners, losers and fantasy stars and busts. And that's not even getting into the injuries.

What's the difference between a crazy pile up where everyone gets up unscathed and a non-contact play where a star is lost for the year with a torn ACL? Not much. But those are plays where fantasy fortunes change in an instant. OK, enough preliminary yapping.

Washington at Falcons: Knew Washington would at least make this one close and should have bet it. But at the end of the day the Falcons win and are 5-0. Another huge game for Devonta Freeman. You'll recall we loved him in the magazine, but then he was hurt all preseason and we moved onto other things. Gotta be patient in this game. ... Hankerson got hurt and went bust this week, Julio Jones was playing hurt. The beneficiary is Jacob Tamme. That won't happen all the time. ... Jamison Crowder caught my eye a couple of weeks back. He looks great. Role uncertain once DeSean Jackson healthy, but a nice future there.

Browns at Ravens: Josh McCown looked totally cooked in the preseason, so what he's doing now is pretty impressive. He's probably only a week or two away from his next big hit and injury, but he's playing at a high level now. ... Start running backs against the Browns, week in and week out. On the flip side, you tend to not get as much as out of the passing game, even in a high-scoring battle. ... Gary Barnidge! Did not see that one coming.

Seahawks at Bengals: Good thing no one took me up on my attempts to trade Thomas Rawls this week, since his value has increased overnight. I know Lynch will probably be back this week, but maybe not, and maybe he deals with other injuries this year. Rawls was much more impressive in this game than he a week ago. Huge, surprising game from the Cincinnati passing game, albeit with most of it coming late. 1) Tight ends against Raiders. 2) Tight ends against Seahawks. ... A.J. Green had a long touchdown erased by a penalty.

Rams at Packers: Todd Gurley! Great looking young back. Nice Rams defense, too, not one to go out of your way putting players up against. Nick Foles and the passing game, well, not so good. Tavon Austin is scoring enough that he can be used, but it's a rough passing game to count on. ... Where would the Packers be if the Giants hadn't cut James Jones? It's nutty. Not that they wouldn't still be passing for a lot of yards and winning games, but what a run he's having. At the expense of other Packers receivers. Nice PPR game for Richard Rodgers, at least.

Bears at Kansas City: Andy Reid at the post game press conference looked like he'd seen a ghost. The Ghost of Jay Cutler, or the Ghost of Jamaal Charles' torn ACL. Hopefully many picked up Charcandrick West last week? The hot pickup this week of course. ... Just some incredible throws by Cutler, who as we always note has plenty of arm talent. Between the ears he bugs people and has the bad body language and so forth, but he can throw the football. This knocked a bunch of people out of Survivor Pools, including my wife, who is still seething about a late pass interference call that helped the Bears win. I agree; bad call. Defender didn't do anything to draw that flag.

Saints at Eagles: I assume Rob Ryan will be fired this week. The Saints defense is just godawful bad and personnel is part of it but clearly a coaching change is going to come. He and Sean Payton hate each other and it can't work anymore. Not that New Orleans' offense doesn't have problems but the fact that its defense can't get off the field is the big issue. ... So, Brandin Cooks and Willie Snead, they're the top 2 options here. ... Is Philly's offense finally getting things turned around, or is it just facing the Saints? My sense is it's probably the latter. They host the Giants on Monday Night Football next week and even though San Francisco's offense got healthy against New York, I will not be high on Philly.

Jaguars at Buccaneers: Doug Martin, another player we loved in the preseason, then he spent a few weeks struggling, and now he's a star. Pretty sure I benched him in a league or two yesterday; I definitely underrated him against what I thought was a good Jacksonville run defense. So naturally he had a huge game as a runner and receiver. As did Charles Sims. As did the entire Jaguars passing offense. These are the defenses you want to start players against, although naturally the most-used players (Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson) had quiet games. That's the worry with Tampa Bay; they're figuring out to win games they need a more conservative Jameis Winston, throwing passes to running backs. We'll see if that continues.

Bills at Titans: A bunch of people picked up Antonio Andrews, under the thought he was Tennessee's new feature back. No. At least he scored yesterday, saving those who started him, but there's a roulette quality to using any Titans back. Different guy every week and none of them might be any good. Maybe David Cobb will get a chance, but he's still a few weeks away from coming back. ... Great running game from Tyrod Taylor, but scary bad passing production. For both teams. Heard Kendall Wright complained about his role after the game, just one game after having a big outing. Players complaining about roles, good grief. ... Anthony Dixon obviously let some people down. A reminder that some running backs are deep backups that don't play much for a reason, they're terrible.

Cardinals at Lions: So this was the day that Jim Caldwell officially got himself fired. When he is fired, anyway, the day he benched Matthew Stafford for Dan Orlovsky will be cited. Yes Stafford played terrible and earned it, but c'mon. He's not the problem with this team, or if he is, Orlovsky is not the solution. ... Ameer Abdullah is killing those of us who believed. Past time to stick him on the bench. Detroit's schedule gets easier, but obviously it's too late for them to turn things around now. Golden Tate and Calvin Johnson are on a sunk ship. And Johnson looks to me like he's lost a step.

Patriots at Cowboys: Yeah, the Patriots are awesome. That's part of the story. The other part is that Brandon Weeden is not even an NFL backup caliber quarterback. Take away one key receiver and he's hopeless. New England could basically have announced, We're going to focus on taking away Jason Witten, and that would be it for the offense. Dallas sure does need a bye week, and I wonder if it will be Matt Cassel coming out of it. Probably. ... Terrance Williams, droppable? Definitely not startable.

Broncos at Raiders: Yeesh. The only offensive touchdown in this game was scored by Marcel Reece. It's over for Peyton Manning. It's not too soon to call it. He's 2010 Brett Favre. Every once in a while there might be a good game. But you can't turn back time. ... Nice game for Emmanuel Sanders, but he and Demaryius Thomas are it for the Broncos at this point. The running game is hopeless with Manning not scaring anyone downfield.

49ers at Giants: I was all in on the Giants in Survivor Pools, and fortunately -- very, very fortunately -- they pulled it out. One of those games you take your W and speak of it no more. Great last drive by Eli Manning, you know except for the bad interception over the middle of the field that was reversed because it hit the ground. Lucky. The fine line between winning and losing.

Monday, Monday: Steelers-Chargers, fun game. I think San Diego's offense will have success, but their line is awfully banged up. I like LeVeon Bell, but it's hard to be confident in the passing game with Michael Vick out there. Because you know, old washed-up quarterback. I'm going to call it Chargers 24, Steelers 17. And hope nobody important gets hurt.
