I see there’s a blurb on the team website of the Browns today. Their running backs coach, Kirby Wilson, says the team will feature a smash-mouth, running-oriented offense. Typical offseason fare.

“We call it ‘big boy football.’ It is all about attitudes and it starts with the run game. You have got to be able to run it, and you have got to be able to stop the run on defense,” Wilson said.

I have said this a couple of times already on this site, but I will repeat again. I think there’s some truth here, and that Cleveland’s running backs will be two of the better values around – Isaiah Crowell and Duke Johnson Jr.

I thought it was noteworthy that the Browns, with 14 draft picks, didn’t select a running back. Hue Jackson thinks they’ll be fine with these two young backs.

“They haven’t put on the pads yet and they haven’t done it,” Jackson says. “but I truly believe we have the potential there to be really good at the position.”

The Browns don’t have great personnel. Alex Mack signed with Atlanta; he’s one of the best centers in the league. And Mitchell Scwartz got a nice contract from Kansas City. So I will concede there’s some concern there.

But I think running the ball is mostly about deciding you want to run the ball – practicing those plays, and sticking with the run during games. And in that regard, Hue Jackson has been a run-dominant coach. His last four offenses have all ranked higher rushing than passing.

I will gladly make room on my fantasy teams for Crowell and Johnson.
