The Dolphins signed Arian Foster last week, and he and Jay Ajayi will compete for a leading role in the team's backfield. Foster turns 30 next month and has missed a lot of time due to injury in recent seasons, so he's a poor bet to stay healthy. If he does, though, it's hard to see Ajayi outperforming him.

Ajayi was kind of intriguing prior to last year's draft, as he was very productive at Boise State. In his final two seasons he averaged over 1,600 rushing yards while also catching 72 passes for 757 more, with 51 total TDs. He lasted to the fifth round, perhaps due to bad medical reports on his knee. He then spent the first half of last season on IR-designated to return after a preseason rib injury.

When he finally got on the field, he had a fast start -- but cooled off after his first two games. He averaged over 8.0 yards per carry his first two games, then was over 3.3 just once in his final six. Miami made its play for C.J. Anderson, drafted Kenyan Drake in the third round, and has now signed Foster.

Ajayi's game-by-game numbers are below. He had one nice game as a receiver, but otherwise was a non-factor. Overall, he was pretty ordinary.
