The Saints haven't played much defense the last few seasons. Just twice in the last decade, in fact, have they ranked higher than 20th in total defense (yards allowed). They probably won't in 2017, either.

One of their better players, Nick Fairley, was placed on the non-football injury list yesterday with a heart issue. Bad as the Saints defense has been in recent years, it was 14th in stopping the run in 2016, with Fairley (43 tackles and 6.5 sacks) a big part of it.

Next in line for that spot on New Orleans defensive line is probably Tony McDaniel. The 32-year-old journeyman is with his fourth team in the last five seasons. He's been a good player at times, but unlikely he'll be part of a New Orleans defensive turnaround.

They might also be eyeing second-year tackle David Onyemata. He was a fourth-rounder a year ago who didn't make much of an impact as a rookie.

On the bright side from a fantasy perspective, New Orleans' offensive players should again need to put up plenty of production. Because their defense will certainly be giving it up.
