Seattle has one of the more interesting tailback battles of the preseason. Who’s going to start? And will the team utilize a committee approach?

Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times has been watching the workouts all along and is of the opinion that Thomas Rawls or Eddie Lacy will be the team’s starting tailback. C.J. Prosise, Condotta thinks, is more likely to be used in a third-down type role (which hasn’t been a big part of this offense). Prosise is a much better pass catcher than the others.

Lacy has had weight problems for the last two years in Green Bay, but he seems to be in better shape this year. He signed a contract including weight clauses, and thus he’s been able to hit all of his weight-limit deadlines.

Condotta says Lacy probably will be sidelined when camp opens, while Rawls is 100 percent healthy. Rawls probably will be running with the first-team offense when camp begins, making him the favorite to be the starter at the beginning of the season.

This article mentions that Alex Collins is improved shape this year. Now that he’s had a chance to learn the offense and adjust to the pro game, he could be the best 4th-string running back in the league – a guy that probably would be a 2nd- or 3rd-string running back on some other teams.
