The Butterfly Effect, the concept of small causes having larger (often unintended) effects is nothing new, even in sports. An injury to Ryan Tannehill led to an extra $10 million in Jay Cutler's bank account. Some would say that Drew Bledsoe's injury led to a dynasty, and Trent Green's injury is why Kurt Warner is in the Hall of Fame.

In the shorter term, Aaron Rodgers' broken collarbone could put several teams in your league at a disadvantage. And if yours isn't one of them, it could give you a big advantage.

Obviously, a season-ending injury is bad news for those who drafted Rodgers. They lost a key starter and still have to make do with the guys they drafted after spending an early pick on a quarterback. It also affects those who have Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb on their teams. Ditto for Ty Montgomery and Aaron Jones owners.

You could argue a new emphasis on the run would benefit those guys, and maybe it will. But I think having Rodgers behind center means defenses can't stack the line to stop those guys. Now, if we're talking Brett Hundley? Pretty sure that changes the gameplan for defensive coordinators.

That's five players, plus Mason Crosby, who's kind of a player, too. And if Hundley struggles, opposing defenses might be worth spot starts. I'm not even counting defensive players, who could be either helped or hurt depending on whether you're looking for tackles or turnovers.

The bottom line is that a half-dozen owners could be affected by this injury. And even if you're not one of them, you can be affected if you want. Now is a great time to propose a trade or two to owners who are just starting to cope with a changing fantasy landscape. Several teams have needs today that they simply didn't have last week.

I'm definitely going to make some offers in one league. I also drafted a quarterback early (Drew Brees). As a backup, I picked up a rookie in the off chance he turned into something. That guy, Deshaun Watson, has definitely turned into something. And that's given me an opportunity to trade one away to fill in some of my own weaknesses.

Did I say weaknesses? I also drafted Ezekiel Elliott, and I'm staring at a good month and half without his services. Talk about a Butterfly Effect: A play in Minnesota and a court in Louisiana is causing a guy in Florida to reevaluate his options.

Wherever you are, you should be doing the same. Don't simply target the Rodgers owner; look at all the ripples stemming from that injury, and see if you have a strength where someone else has a weakness. You should still have a few weeks before your league's trade deadline, so why not use this event to kick things up a notch? Maybe some owners will be a lot more motivated to talk to you, and a couple might be desperate. That's always a great quality to find in a trade partner.

Of course, you could be the desperate owner in this equation. If that's the case, you have even more incentive to initiate a trade. Why wait for vultures (like me) to come to you with an offer? Don't limit yourself to the guys on my roster. Look all across the league, target a good replacement and approach that owner yourself. You might end up trading with an owner who never would have contacted you, and getting a player who wouldn't have been available if you waited for offers to come your way.

Or maybe you have the depth to render a trade unnecessary. If so, that's great. But I still think you should consider offers. You might end up improving your position at a cheaper price than you thought possible. You never know.

This one injury could upend your whole roster, increase communication with league owners, and help someone build a champion. And hopefully that champion will be you.

There are other ripples to consider with this injury, of course. Without Rodgers, the NFL simply won't be as fun to watch. He's not only a rare talent, but he has a fun style of play. I'm not a Packers fan, but I like watching them because of Rodgers and it doesn't look like we'll see him again this year. That's a shame.

We can't do anything about that loss, but we can try to minimize our fantasy deficits, or maybe take advantage of someone else's. I hope you can do both this week.
