Question

Alex Smith and Vernon Davis were both first-round picks in San Francisco. They played there together for years. Now they’re both with Washington. When was the last time two players were selected in the first round by one team, connected on a touchdown for said team, then combined for a touchdown with a different franchise?

Answer

Carson Palmer and Jermaine Gresham. Selected by the Bengals, they combined for a touchdown late in 2016 season in Arizona (they played there last year but didn’t have a touchdown). I spent a quality half hour looking into this. For the 2017 season, I see that Ryan Mallett threw 2 touchdowns to Benjamin Watson; they were both drafted by the Patriots but didn’t play there at the same time. Similarly, Jay Cutler and Julius Thomas connected on 3 TDs last year, but they didn’t play in Denver at the same time. Josh McCown threw touchdowns last year to both Matt Forte and Austin Seferian-Jenkins. Previously, McCown threw a touchdown to Forte in Chicago and Seferian-Jenkins in Tampa Bay, but McCown was drafted by Arizona way back when.
