Question

The Cowboys will play the Rams on Saturday – the first time two teams have met in the postseason a ninth time. Who was the only Los Angeles player who completed more than 50 percent of his passes in any of the previous eight meetings? It’s a player who’s now in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Answer

Eric Dickerson, who completed his only pass on a gadget play (for 1 yard) when the Rams won 24-17 at Dallas in December, 1983. The Rams’ quarterbacks, however, haven’t had much success, with Vince Ferragamo, John Hadl, Ron Jaworski, Dieter Brock, Pat Haden and James Harris completing under 42 percent of their passes in those games, with 7 TDs and 18 interceptions. (Jaworski and Ferragamo had games at exactly 50 percent.) Different era, of course, with the Cowboys also struggling to pass effectively; the teams split those earlier eight meetings (all played from 1973 to 1985).
