Question

What Rams Hall of Famer was the first coach of the New Orleans Saints?

Answer

Tom Fears. Fears was a record-setting receiver with Los Angeles, leading the league with 77 and 84 catches in the 1949 and 1950 seasons. After serving as an assistant coach for eight years (four of them under Vince Lombardi) he was named the coach of the expansion Saints in 1967. He was never able to get that franchise off the ground, going 13-34-2 in three and half seasons. Fears was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1970. He later served as a head coach of the WFL’s Southern California Sun and as an executive with the USFL’s Los Angeles Express.
