Question

Kareem Hunt and James White both caught 7 touchdown passes last year. Who was the last running back to catch even more touchdowns in a season?

Answer

Marshall Faulk, who caught 9 TDs for the St. Louis Rams in 2001. Faulk also caught 8 TDs in 2000. One other running back in the last 30 years has caught more than 7 TDs, and he’s a back many have forgotten: Leroy Hoard, with 9 TD catches for Cleveland in 1991. That was Bill Belichick’s first season as a head coach. Belichick has coached a lot of good pass-catching running backs – White, Shane Vereen, Kevin Faulk, Danny Woodhead – but none of them ever caught as many touchdowns in a season as Hoard.
