Question

A.J. Brown went over 1,000 receiving yards last year while averaging over 20 yards per catch. Who was the last other rookie receiver to do this? Said player once competed in the Olympics.

Answer

Bob Hayes. Hayes won the gold medal in the 100-meter dash at the Olympics in Tokyo in 1964. The next year, with the Dallas Cowboys, Hayes caught 46 passes for 1,003 yards, averaging 21.8 yards per catch. Three other rookie receivers have done this, all even earlier – Billy Howton (Packers) in 1952, Harlon Hill (Bears) in 1954 and Bill Groman (Oilers) in 1960 (first season of the AFL).
