Question

Todd Gurley last year averaged only 3.8 yards per carry yet scored 14 touchdowns. The last time a running back averaged even fewer yards per carry and scored even more touchdowns was 2000. Two running backs actually did it that year. Name either of those two running backs.

Answer

Eddie George and Lamar Smith. Both scored 16 touchdowns. Playing for the Titans, George averaged 3.74 yards per carry. Smith began his career with the Seahawks but played for Miami that year, averaging only 3.69 yards per attempt. Both of those backs ran for plenty of yards – 1,509 for George, and 1,139 for Smith. George in 2002 averaged only 3.4 yards per attempt while scoring an even 14 touchdowns.
