Vikings add RB Akers via trade with Rams

The Minnesota Vikings acquired running back CAM AKERS from the Los Angles Rams on Wednesday. The Vikings will also get a 2026 conditional seventh-round pick from the Rams, while Los AngelesMore gets a conditional 2026 sixth-round pick from the Vikings. Browns exploring options following Chubb injury

Cleveland Browns running back NICK CHUBB will undergo surgery on his injured left knee and will be out for the remainder of the 2023 NFL season. Browns head coach Kevin StefanskiMore said the team will now feature backup running back JEROME FORD in the lead role. The Browns are also exploring other options, including KAREEM HUNT. Hunt, 28, became a free agent this spring and the team did not sign him because they reportedly felt that his speed was not what it once was. Another player reportedly on the Browns’ radar is Los Angeles Rams running back CAM AKERS, who the Rams said earlier this week is likely to be traded. Stay tuned, fantasy owners. Less

Rams RB Akers on the trading block

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay said on Monday that GM Les Snead has spoken with “a handful of teams” about a trade for running back CAM AKERS. McVay addedMore that “that’s the direction that we’re headed”. Akers was a healthy scratch for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers, something McVay called “a coach’s decision” that was made in the “best interest” of the team. Fantasy owners may recall a similar situation from last season, when Akers spent nearly a month away from the Rams in the middle of the season as the team explored options. KYREN WILLIAMS replaced Akers as the Rams lead back, scoring twice against the 49ers and totaling 100 scrimmage yards. Less

Factoid: Lousy rushing performances

Sifting through the stats from Week 1 of the NFL season, I noticed some really lousy rushing performances. There were plenty of shocking quarterback and wide receiver duds, which we've discussed the last couple of days, but also some really bad running backs.   more »

Factoid: James Conner

I get nervous selecting running backs from bad teams. If a team or offense is truly putrid, how often is it going to get anywhere close to the end zone? And with that in mind, how good can a running back like James Conner be?   more »

Around the NFL: L.A. Rams

Cooper Kupp suffered a hamstring injury earlier in the preseason, and yesterday came the news that he's apparently picked up an additional issue in his recovery. He's being called day t0 day with a muscle strain. The start of the season is a little over a week away, so his availability for the opener can't be taken for granted.   more »

Around the NFL: Cam Akers

I'm uncertain how to feel about Cam Akers, and this applies to the Rams offense in general. On the one hand, Akers and the team's running game were very good the second half of last season. On the other hand, that kind of approach really isn't what the team is all about.   more »

Factoid: Dameon Pierce

I like Dameon Pierce. I understand that he was held back last year by having a lesser cast around him. But I also recognize that teams change.   more »

McVay says RB Akers will be “huge part” of Rams offense

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay said recently that running back CAM AKERS “had a great offseason”, adding that Akers will be “a central figure in this offense” for 2023.More While coaches say a lot of things in the offseason, McVay certainly has the attention of fantasy owners with his recent comments. It’s worth remembering, however, that Akers also had great expectations heading into last season before falling out of favor with the Rams and even ending up on the trade block. Akers’ status in the weeks and months ahead will be worth watching. Less

Factoid: Bad team backs

I always get nervous selecting running backs from lousy teams – like James Conner, Cam Akers and Rachaad White this year. Those guys are starters who should get plenty of touches, but can they overcome the crappy situations around them?   more »
