Around the NFL: DeMarco Murray

DeMarco Murray retired late last week. There was immediately speculation that he'll sign on with some team once a starter gets hurt in the preseason, which I guess is possible. But unlike say Marshawn Lynch, who was under contract with Seattle when he retired a couple of years ago, Murray was a free agent -- no reason to retire if he actually still wants to play football. Good chance, I think, that he's done.   more »

DeMarco Murray announces retirement

Former Dallas, Philadelphia, and Tennessee running back DEMARCO MURRAY announced Friday that he is retiring from the NFL after seven seasons. Murray had some great fantasy seasons but he was hampered by injuries and rushed for a career-low 659 yards last season. He was released by the Titans in March.

I see that Jason Witten is saying he believes Dez Bryant will sign with the Packers. That would be intriguing, with Aaron Rodgers perhaps being able to better utilize Bryant in the red zone. Too often Bryant and Dak Prescott weren’t on the same page in that part of the field.  more »

The Tennessee Titans informed running back DEMARCO MURRAY that he will be released, clearing the way for DERRICK HENRY to take over as the team’s lead running back for the 2018More season. Murray, 30, had been hampered by injuries and was coming off the worst statistical season of his career. Henry, meanwhile, appears to have a great opportunity ahead. Less

The Titans are expected to cut DeMarco Murray in the next month, a reminder of how quick things change in the NFL. Murray led the NFL in rushing as recently as 2014, and was 3rd in 2016.
