Fantasy Index Weekly: Super Bowl Preview: San Francisco

49ers: San Francisco's status as slight favorites surprises us, as noted yesterday, but we're not underestimating the NFC champs. On paper, they're better at a lot of positions: running back, receiver, and on defense. Four years ago they were winning in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl LIV.   more »

Factoid: George Kittle

With Kansas City being tough against wide receivers, it makes me wonder if George Kittle will show up big in the Super Bowl. This could be a game where the 49ers are looking to use him more.   more »

Factoid: Elite tight ends

There are four teams left, and they all have difference makers at tight ends. I don’t think there’s ever been a stronger final four at the position.   more »

24 Hours 'Til Sunday: Snapshot previews of all the games

It's Saturday, and the conference championship games are tomorrow. No disclaimer is needed regarding my advice here and the Weekly rankings; I did the articles on the site, so those are good to go. Except for the fact that Deebo Samuel (shoulder) is apparently playing.   more »

Factoid: George Kittle

I got it in my head this season that George Kittle put up his best numbers in big games. He caught 3 TDs in an early-season showdown with Dallas (what seemed like a possible championship game preview, with the teams a combined 7-1), then was huge in the late-season "Super Bowl preview" loss to Baltimore (7 for 126). Is he a big-game guy?  more »

Fantasy News: Thursday night recap

It’s a long season, but as of right now, the 49ers sure look like Super Bowl contenders. They might have the league’s best defense, and their offense is good enough that it didn’t miss Brandon Aiyuk at all on Thursday night.   more »

Factoid: Dallas Goedert

The Eagles sure get Dallas Goedert downfield a bunch. He’s more mobile than a typical tight end, and they try to take advantage of that.   more »

Factoid: Tight ends

Do you select George Kittle before Travis Kelce in a playoff draft? The way they’ve been playing recently, it’s a reasonable question to ponder.   more »

Around the NFL: Kittle and Aiyuk

Kyle Shanahan says he was told that Deebo Samuel (knee/ankle) would be out "three-ish" weeks. That's not a word, but we can reasonably conclude that Samuel will miss Week 15, 16 and probably 17, perhaps playing in Week 18 if it's meaningful (it probably won't be) or if they want him to get some reps in before a Week 19 playoff game.   more »

49ers TE Kittle to miss season opener with groin injury?

San Francisco tight end GEORGE KITTLE is reportedly in jeopardy of missing Sunday’s season opener against the Chicago Bears due to a groin injury. 49ers TE Kittle day-to-day with groin injury

San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan said on Wednesday that veteran tight end GEORGE KITTLE is day-to-day with a groin injury. The news of this issue comes as a surprise, butMore as fantasy owners are well aware, Kittle has struggled with injuries in recent seasons. Shanahan said he was “not sure” how severe Kittle’s injury was, but the veteran tight end’s status for the September 11th season opener against the Chicago Bears is now in doubt. Less

Factoid: George Kittle

I won’t be drafting George Kittle this year. I don’t like the injury history, and I don’t like the potential for that passing game to slip a notch (or two) with Trey Lance at the controls. I will concede, however, that Kittle is a heck of a player.  more »

Around the NFL: George Kittle

We're proofing the magazine this week, and just yesterday I was reading the tight ends section. "George Kittle is a huge injury risk," writes Ian. And hours later I saw the news item that Kittle will be shut down until training camp due to the nebulous "lower body injury."  more »
