Factoid: Carson Wentz

Kansas City signed Carson Wentz as its backup quarterback yesterday. You can be forgiven if you were unaware he was on the market, even with several teams in need of a starter. Even today, the former No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft is not considered a candidate for that role.   more »

Around the NFL: Jameis Winston

Saw a story this week that Jameis Winston wants to stay in New Orleans, content to serve as a backup to Derek Carr. Evidently he's really happy with the organization and the community, or else he's decided the ship has sailed on any NFL team viewing him a starting quarterback. Maybe both.   more »

The New Orleans Saints signed quarterback JAKE LUTON on Tuesday off the practice squad of the division rival Carolina Panthers. Saints change Hill’s designation from tight end to quarterback

Sorry fantasy owners, the days of potentially rostering TAYSOM HILL as a tight end with quarterback upside appear to be over. The Saints have changed Hill’s designation from tight end toMore quarterback, possibly to take advantage of the NFL’s new emergency quarterback rule. A team’s second quarterback can play at will and line up at other positions like tight end, while the emergency third quarterback is restricted to operating under center. By designating Hill as QB2, the Saints are free to continue using him as they have been while veteran JAMEIS WINSTON or rookie fourth-rounder JAKE HAENER would be the emergency third quarterback. QB Carr looks good in brief Saints debut

New Orleans Saints quarterback DEREK CARR looked solid in his preseason debut with his new team, completing 6 of 8 passes for 70 yards and a four-yard touchdown. The 12-play scoringMore drive was the only work of the day for Carr, as fellow quarterback JAMEIS WINSTON replaced him afterward. One of Carr’s most promising completions may have been a 16-yard connection with veteran wide receiver MICHAEL THOMAS. As fantasy owners are well aware, Thomas has missed almost all of the last three seasons with injuries but he has been healthy this summer and hopes are high for what he and Carr will be able to do this season. Saints QB Winston, WR Thomas still hobbled by injuries
