Factoid: A.J. Brown and D.K. Metcalf

It was a little disappointing when A.J. Brown was drafted by the Tennessee Titans. That's long been a lesser passing game and iffy quarterback situation, plus they seem to already have a No. 1 wideout in Corey Davis. Had Brown gone to Seattle, like Mississippi teammate D.K. Metcalf, and we'd be talking about a potential top-5 pick in rookie drafts.   more »

Factoid: D.K. Metcalf

I'm not sure how I feel about D.K. Metcalf. He'll be one of the first wide receivers drafted after blowing up the combine, but there's definitely some risk there. He had one full college season, and two other wiped out by injury. Will he be a future star?  more »

Around the NFL: Late-round wide receivers

Green Bay drafted three wide receivers from the fourth through the sixth round last April, and some (including me) thought one of them might emerge as a significant receiver in their rookie season. Maybe Randall Cobb would get hurt, or maybe one of them would beat out Geronimo Allison for No. 3 duties in the Aaron Rodgers-led offense. Well, nope.   more »

Andy Richardson: Updating the rookie class

When we put together the Rookie story for the magazine, it's basically sight unseen. We have college tape and combine performances to go on, but no actual preseason work. Now we've got a couple of those games to work with, and while it's far too soon to make any final judgments, I'll take a quick pass through the incoming rookies, the top 5 at each position, in order of their magazine rankings.   more »

Factoid: D.J. Moore

D.J. Moore was somewhat surprisingly the first wide receiver drafted, Carolina's first-round pick in April. But he's been drawing positive press throughout training camp, and he looked very good in the exhibition opener: 4 catches for 75 yards.   more »

Around the NFL: First-round wide receivers

The Cowboys cut Dez Bryant, and now every mock draft is sure they'll draft a wide receiver in the first round. Calvin Ridley, Courtland Sutton (pictured) and D.J. Moore are the popular choices. And maybe they will. But the history indicates that while that player might go on to be the team's future at wide receiver, he's unlikely to put up big numbers in his first season.   more »

Factoid: Third-year breakout for wide receivers?

You hear a lot about wide receivers breaking out in their third seasons. So it would be a trend that would benefit guys like Josh Doctson, Corey Coleman and Will Fuller in 2018, if true. But how accurate is it, really?   more »

Factoid: Rookie wide receivers

There were three wide receivers drafted in the top 10 last April, and those teams will certainly give them a chance to make an immediate impact. But while Corey Davis, Mike Williams and John Ross will certainly push for snaps right away, it won't be easy for them to be difference makers.   more »

Around the NFL: Taywan Taylor

Taywan Taylor has been lining up in the slot for the Titans this offseason, and he's drawing praise from local medial. Jim Wyatt of the team website says Taylor looks like a perfect fit. He's surely rostered in every dynasty league, but can probably be ignored in re-draft leagues.   more »
