Around the NFL: David Montgomery

Is David Montgomery underrated? I think so. Early ADP data suggests he's about the 20th running back off the board, and that's where he showed up in our Experts Poll, as well. I fully understand the concerns, but based on last year -- for what it's worth -- he should probably be anywhere from 5-8 spots higher.   more »

Factoid: Tarik Cohen

Chase Daniel is starting at quarterback for the Bears this week, and that has me more interested in Tarik Cohen. With the quarterback switch, I think Cohen will get more involved catching short passes out of the backfield.   more »

Ian Allan: 3rd-down backs

In a previous post, I was kicking around the issue of whether third-down backs can actually be better in tougher situations. If a team falls behind or can’t get its running game going, it reasonably will pass more, setting up these backs to finish with better numbers. I want to come back at this issue, but in a different way.  more »

Factoid: Third-down backs

When a pass-catching running back is in a PPR league, I tend to get more excited when the team is in a tougher situation. If a team can’t run the ball or falls way behind, it tends to start working in more dumpoff passes, and the fantasy points can pile up.   more »

Around the NFL: David Montgomery

With rookie running backs (outside of franchise-type guys like Saquon Barkley), I tend to take a wait-and-see attitude. I want to see something on the field before I get too interested in committing big resources to go after said player. But it looks like David Montgomery might be creeping out of that class.  more »

Cohen expects to play the same role in 2019

Running back JORDAN HOWARD is no longer in Chicago, but fellow running back TARIK COHEN does not expect his role to change heading into the 2019 season. Cohen expects to remainMore the “receiving” back or “change of pace” back, much like he was last year. The Bears added MIKE DAVIS in the offseason and drafted rookie DAVID MONTGOMERY, both of whom could have a role in the backfield this season. Less

Around the NFL: Tarik Cohen

There are two sample leagues in the pages of the magazine (an auction and a draft) and in both of them, Tarik Cohen and David Montgomery went in about the same area. That surprised me; in PPR formats, I see Cohen as the far more valuable of the two.   more »
