Checking in one last time on that Cordarrelle Patterson game before we move on to Week 2 stuff. He ran for 102 yards in the win at St. Louis.

I’ve got a database with all of the 100-yard games going back to 1978 (the year they started the 16-game schedule). As best I can tell, he’s the first wide receiver to run for 100 yards in a game.

Only two other players have been able to run for over 100 yards with fewer than 6 carries. Brian Mitchell is the all-time leader, having done it with 2 attempts for Philadelphia against Atlanta in 2000. Mitchell also had an 89-yard touchdown on a kickoff return in that game; he had only 2 carries because he entered the backfield in the fourth quarter after Duce Staley got hurt.

The Eagles are the all-time kings of this category. They’ve had seven different players run for 100-plus yards with under 10 attempts.

Napoleon Kaufman is the individual leader; he’s the only one who’s done it three times.

Since 1978, it’s been done 55 times. Seven of those are by quarterbacks. Michael Vick, oddly, is a guy you would figure would have done it once or twice, but he’s not one of the seven. Vinny Testaverde (seriously) is. Go figure. (I’ve got the quarterbacks on the list in bold.)
