Question

Who are the only five quarterbacks chosen with first-round picks in the Super Bowl era who never played for the team that drafted them?

Answer

There are three easy ones. John Elway (Colts), Eli Manning (Chargers), Philip Rivers (Giants). All were traded and went on to have prominent careers with other franchises (and all were also one-team guys). Two other quarterbacks were traded after contract disputes. The Oilers drafted Jim Everett with the 3rd pick of the 1986 draft. When the season started and he was still unsigned, they traded him to the Rams. The St. Louis Cardinals drafted Kelly Stouffer of Colorado State 6th in 1987. He sat out his entire rookie season before they traded him to Seattle.
