Last week we crowned Cory Bonini of USA Today Fantasy Sports as the winner of our Experts Poll. His overall top 20 in six categories – QB, RB, WR, TE, K and Def – graded out higher than the other 19 participants. But I also like to check in each year with a look at the overall landscape. That is, not just the 2015 season, but how everyone has done counting all of the previous years.
We’ve been doing the Experts Poll for 25 years, and I’ve got the results from the previous seasons. Right now, we’ve got 20 experts who have competed in the last four years who’ve competed in at least three of these things, so we can look at composite results.
Right now Scott Pianowski of Yahoo Sports is our current active leader. Bob Henry of Footballguys.com isn’t far behind, and Micah James (FFMagicMan) and David Dorey (The Huddle) are also near the top.
This is using a wins and losses scoring system. That is, each year you get a “win” for every analyst you beat, and you get a “loss” for every one who finishes above you. Bonini won the most recent poll, so he gets 19 wins and 0 losses for that effort. Had he finished 7th, he would have received 13 wins and 6 losses.
Using that system, Pianowski comes out on top. He’s beaten almost 75 percent of the analysts he’s competed against over the years. Henry is at about 72 percent. Those are the two guys, by the way, who’ve won this competition three times.
