Eric Decker has a torn rotator cuff, and there'd been speculation that maybe he'd heal up OK with rest and be able to play again soon, albeit at less than 100 percent. Nope; the Jets have placed him on injured reserve.

Under new rules, it's possible such players could return after eight weeks, but that's apparently not going to happen. Most likely he's out for the year.

In a fantasy draft this year, I picked Decker just a few seconds after the player picking after me accidentally yelled out his name too early, thinking I'd already picked. I was going to pick him anyway, but it looked suspect. Had I been trying to snipe that player, well, there would be karma for me.

Decker's absence is an overall negative for the Jets offense, of course, but it's a plus for Quincy Enunwa, who's now the clear No. 2. And I'm interested in the guy they just picked up, Jeremy Butler. He was productive for the Ravens down the stretch last year, and I won't be surprised if he quickly moves into the No. 3 role for the Jets. Not a big fantasy producing spot, but Enunwa is a little banged-up too, and Brandon Marshall often is.

In any event, Marshall and Enunwa will need to be the key cogs in the passing game going forward. Just maybe new tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins will carve out a role, too.
