The Jets are benching Ryan Fitzpatrick for Geno Smith. We're only six games into the season, so maybe it's too soon to write them off. But probably not. Smith is unlikely to be any better than Fitzpatrick, and he's not likely to keep the starting job for long.

Smith will face a Ravens defense that might be without at least one of its best pass rushers, but he's still more likely to take a bunch of sacks than Ryan Fitzpatrick. In his career he's been sacked 75 times in 31 games, so nearly 2.5 per game.

He's also thrown 36 interceptions in those games, and fumbled 17 times (losing 7). Most of those starts were his first two years in the league, so maybe he's matured and will be more careful with the football. But proactively, let's snap up the Ravens defense and stick them into a fantasy lineup this week, because there's a decent chance the sacks and turnovers will be flowing.

If Smith falters, the Jets will next turn to Bryce Petty. May as well see what he brings to the table, since there's essentially no chance of Fitzpatrick or Smith being on the roster in 2017. Next up would be Christian Hackenberg, who might very well make Fitzpatrick and Smith look careful with the football by comparison.

Perhaps Smith will be an upgrade for the Jets key offensive players, Brandon Marshall and Matt Forte. Maybe not against the Ravens, but they're in Cleveland in Week 8.

But with the losses likely to continue to pile up in weeks to come, it might be time to quietly sell off your Jets while they still have some value, if they have some value.
