Tony Romo is apparently going to retire, pursuing a career in broadcasting rather than in the NFL. It remains to be seen if this story is over; we've heard about quarterbacks retiring once or twice before only to see them return in time for training camp.

But for now, it's over for Romo. And although Dallas fans might not care (if anything they're probably happy), it has to be a bit worrying for the Houston Texans. They traded away last year's starting quarterback a month ago, so if they were counting on signing Romo, they might need to figure out a Plan B.

At present, they're looking at Tom Savage as their opening day starter. About all that can be said for him is that he's performed in the top half of the six quarterbacks who have started for them the last two season, in terms of quarterback rating. Better than Brock Osweiler, T.J. Yates and Ryan Mallett, but not as good a guy who they maybe should have kept around (Brian Hoyer), and the other current option on their roster (Brandon Weeden). Maybe it will in fact be Weeden (another former Cowboy!) in the lineup.

Houston has somehow won two AFC South titles in a row. Remarkable given the quarterbacking they've had those last two seasons. They're no lock to be any better this year, either.
