The Chargers signed Geno Smith yesterday, and he'll likely back up Philip Rivers in 2018. Most likely, there won't be a fantasy impact -- Rivers has started every game 12 years in a row. But Rivers is 36 years old, so the chances of him missing time due to injury would seem to be increasing. If that happens, the defenses facing the Chargers become more appealing in fantasy leagues.

Smith has appeared in 34 games over his NFL career, and one of the reasons he's never been particularly successful as a starter is he's never been good at avoiding sacks, interceptions and fumbles. That continued into his lone start in 2017, for the Giants: 3 sacks and 2 fumbles against Oakland.

For his career (and this includes several games where he only got a handful of attempts), Smith has been a sack and turnover machine. The ugly numbers below.
