DeVante Parker will always be a former first-round pick. The Dolphins selected him with the 14th pick of the 2015 draft. But four years in, it looks safe to file away any hopes or expectations that he’ll ever develop into a difference-making type of wide receiver.

He’s just not that good. He looks like another A.J. Green when he’s running around in shorts, but it hasn’t happened on the field. Not enough big plays, and they’ve never been able to get him dialed in.

When everyone was healthy, Parker wasn’t one of Miami’s top 3 wide receivers last year. I don’t know that he was even their 4th guy. They definitely had Danny Amendola (now with the Lions), Kenny Stills and Albert Wilson playing ahead of him. I think he might have been behind Jakeem Grant in their thinking as well.

Parker went on the market last month – available to anybody who wanted to sign him. If a team such as the Seahawks, Cardinals, Steelers or whoever thought he could be turned into some kind of standout, he presumably would have signed a contract worth something like $12 million per year. Devin Funchess is pretty awful, and he got $10 from the Colts. Instead, Parker quietly re-signed with Miami for two years at an average of $5 million.

Parker is big (6-3, 212) but the Dolphins have never been able to effectively use him on fade routes in the end zone. They’ve thrown him 20 balls (over the last four years) when they’ve been inside the 10, and he’s caught only 3 of them, with just 2 TDs. Since 2015, 53 players have seen at least 20 pass attempts (including 2-point conversions) inside the 10; Parker has the worst scoring rate of all of them.

In a typical 12-team fantasy league, I don’t think Parker should be drafted. I don’t think he’ll be one of Miami’s top 2 wide receivers.
