It was weird when the Jets sent the Patriots next year's sixth-round pick for Demaryius Thomas yesterday. Thomas was probably eventually going to be cut anyway, and the Jets had a credible top 3 of Robby Anderson, Jamison Crowder and Quincy Enunwa. Had.

Enunwa has a neck injury, and is out for the season. Enunwa, many will recall, also missed all of the 2017 season with a neck injury. So Thomas looks a little bit more necessary, probably the No. 3 wide receiver in New York.

But it's hard to see exactly how he's going to fit into the offense. The Jets already have Jamison Crowder as a short-range target. Really short-range; he caught 14 passes for 99 yards last week. They'll throw a ton of passes to LeVeon Bell, and maybe even Ty Montgomery. And in three games they'll have Chris Herndon back for another target.

Enunwa caught only 1 pass last week, and it wasn't because of missing time due to being hurt -- he played 92 percent of the snaps. So if that's the role Thomas is stepping into, no one should be expecting him to make a big impact.

With Enunwa, you have to wonder if he'll be back in the league next year.
