Virtual press conference are going on across the league, welcoming new players to teams via Skype and whatnot. The Bears had one yesterday for new quarterback Nick Foles. He'll be given every shot to unseat Mitchell Trubisky as the starter. It looks like a pretty low ceiling regardless.

"With the addition of Nick Foles it’s exactly what we talked about from the start – we want to create competition," says GM Ryan Pace. It’s an open competition."

Trubisky is the former high draft pick, Foles the recent Super Bowl champ with the Eagles. Last season, neither one did much to move the needle fantasy-wise in their starts.

Foles started 4 games for the Jaguars, Trubisky 15 for the Bears. Even factoring in his rushing production, Trubisky wasn't one of the top 30 fantasy quarterbacks last year, on the basis of per-game production. At least he was a little better than Foles. The quarterback the Bears gave up a fourth-round pick for last month was better than only Devlin Hodges.

I've looked askance at Foles before, so I don't want to pile on. He didn't have a great situation around him in Jacksonville, although note that Gardner Minshew was a decent amount better. But maybe on a new team in a better offense, he can recapture some of his Eagles glory days.

But if we're guessing right now about 2021, I think it's most likely that neither Trubisky nor Foles is the Week 1 starting quarterback, and also that Ryan Pace isn't the GM. They'll probably be blowing things up and starting over by then.
