A popular theory that was kicked around during training camp involved Travis Kelce declining significantly. He was turning 33 in October, after all, and with Tyreek Hill gone, it would potentially result in more teams being able to take him away with double teams. That was the theory.

It didn’t age well.

Kelce instead had one of his best seasons, catching 110 passes for 1,338 yards and 12 touchdowns. All other tight ends finished at least 24 catches for 424 yards back. George Kittle was the only tight end to finish within 5 touchdowns of him (with a late flurry, Kittle finished with 11 TDs).

For fantasy purposes, these numbers made Kelce a huge difference maker. He’s just a lot better than everyone else at his position. Using PPR scoring, Kelce was over 100 points better than any other tight end.

Since the merger in 1970, only three other players have been 100 points more productive than anyone else at their position (again, using PPR). Christian McCaffrey did it in 2019. Emmitt Smith in 1995. And Kellen Winslow back in 1980.

Below see the rundown of the 41 players in the last 53 seasons who’ve been at least 50 points better than anyone else at their position. You get one of those players on your fantasy roster, and typically you’re going to have a good year.

Tight ends, by the way, are well represented on this list, holding 10 of the spots. Typically there are one or two dominant players at the position, who put up numbers a lot better than what you get with a middle- or later-round pick.
