The New England Patriots have decided to secure one of their defensive line stalwarts, giving defensive tackle Christian Barmore a four-year contract extension worth up to $92 million. They selected the former Alabama standout in the second round (38th overall) of the 2021 NFL draft.

Nicole Lynn, Klutch Sports' President of Football, negotiated Barmore's contract. She is the same agent who earned Jalen Hurts a five-year, $255 million contract extension from the Philadelphia Eagles.

Meanwhile, Barmore's massive extension includes $41.8 million in total guaranteed money. According to Spotrac, he will get an $18 million prorated signing bonus, $5.95 million in roster bonuses, and $1.05 million in workout bonuses. He will also earn a $10 million base salary in 2025, and the contract has a potential out after that season.

Due to injury, Barmore played only ten games in the 2022 season. Aside from that concern, he played all of the Patriots' regular-season games in 2021 and 2023. He vastly improved last year, tallying 8.5 sacks while starting only six games. He also had six passes defended, 64 tackles and 16 quarterback hits in 2023.

Christian Barmore has 12.5 sacks, 32 quarterback hits, and 133 tackles in three seasons. Meanwhile, his $23 million annual average value ties him with DeForest Buckner for the eighth-richest contract among NFL defensive tackles.

Barmore will be integral to the Patriots' defensive scheme under first-year head coach Jerod Mayo. He is a projected starter with Davon Godchaux and Deatrich Wise Jr. on the Patriots' defensive line based on a 3-4 formation.
