Around the NFL: Eric Ebron

I see that the Colts are talking up Eric Ebron. They signed him to a two-year deal worth $13 million, and they like what they’ve seen so far.   more »

Around the NFL: Reich views Ebron as "elite"

Frank Reich knows elite tight ends. The new head coach for the Colts has worked with Antonio Gates and Zach Ertz at his previous two coaching stops. So when he speaks favorably of new Indianapolis tight end Eric Ebron, you have to give it some credence, even if it seems wildly optimistic.   more »

Factoid: Short-range tight ends

I notice that more tight ends are running shorter routes nowadays, with Austin Seferian-Jenkins leading the way. He averaged only 7.1 yards per catch last year, the lowest average by any tight end with 50-plus catches in the last 25 years.   more »

Around the NFL: Eric Ebron to Colts

Sometimes it's like these guys just don't care about fantasy teams at all. Eric Ebron was by far the most intriguing free agent tight end out there, a still-young pass catcher who could go somewhere and put up starting-caliber production. Around the NFL: Indianapolis Colts

I have some interest in Jack Doyle and Erik Swoope. The way the Colts use their tight ends, I expect probably both of those guys will rank in the top 20 at their position.   more »

Don’t sleep on Swoope

A major reason why Indianapolis GM Chris Ballard felt comfortable trading tight end DWAYNE ALLEN was his excitement regarding young tight end ERIK SWOOPE. Swoope and JACK DOYLE now sit atopMore the depth chart and Ballard believes that Swoope is a “very talented athlete” with a potentially high ceiling. He may be worth keeping an eye on as a possible sleeper for 2017. Less

Around the NFL: Dwayne Allen

A couple of days ago, the Colts signed pending free agent tight end Jack Doyle to a multi-year deal. That raised some questions about Dwayne Allen's future, but I figured the Colts play a lot of sets with two tight ends, so maybe it's not a big deal to have two well-paid ones. Evidently it was; they traded Allen to the Patriots on Wednesday.   more »
