Around the NFL: 49ers backfield

The 49ers have a crowded backfield: the guy they signed last year, the guy they signed this year, and their most effective back last season. Question is which if any of those players -- Jerick McKinnon, Tevin Coleman, Matt Breida -- will emerge as the main running back.   more »

Breida to have role in crowded backfield

San Francisco running back MATT BREIDA thinks he can do even better in 2019 than he did during a breakout season last year. McKinnon is recovering from a torn ACL and Coleman was added via free agency in the offseason. Head coach Kyle Shanahan says that three capable ballcarriers is a luxury, not a problem. Shanahan apparently does not play fantasy football. Less
