The Rams and Eagles, respectively, gave up mints to trade up into the top two spots of the draft. Nothing official, but it's generally accepted that they did so to select Jared Goff and Carson Wentz, and that's probably how things will shake out. ESPN analyst Jon Gruden, though, doesn't agree.

Gruden is a fan of an entirely different quarterback: Michigan State's Connor Cook. "He's gonna be I think perhaps the best quarterback in this year's draft,'' said Gruden.

Cook won't necessarily be even the 3rd quarterback drafted; Paxton Lynch out of Memphis probably will be. But the fact that Gruden is so high on Cook makes you wonder if some NFL team agrees. If so, we could see four quarterbacks going in the first round, maybe in the first half of the round. San Francisco, the Browns, the Jets and the Broncos are all teams with a clear need at quarterback.

Among the knocks on Cook are his arm strength, and a report a little while back that his personality made him an unpopular guy in the locker room. "The person kills him. Selfish," a scout told Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

It's hard to know what to believe, and how many of these reports are accurate or -- perhaps -- misinformation spread by teams or agents to knock guys down draft boards.

What's clear, though, is that there's not much consensus on the top projected quarterbacks. Maybe the teams drafting 1-2 will get the best quarterbacks in the draft. Maybe they won't. We'll see how teams really feel about these guys in a few days.
